The Vienna Chamber Orchestra

Founded in 1946, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra is renowned as one of the world’s leading large chamber ensembles. With a foundation in the works of Mozart, Schubert, Haydn, and Beethoven, the orchestra has been shaped by decades of collaboration with master musicians such as Carlo Zecchi, Philippe Entremont, Yehudi Menuhin, Sándor Végh, Heinrich Schiff, and Stefan Vladar. The current chapter sees Jan Willem de Vriend appointed as Principal Conductor from the 2023/24 season, promising a continuation of the orchestra's outstanding tradition.

The orchestra has a storied history with notable milestones including Benjamin Britten conducting in 1946, Daniel Barenboim debuting at age nine in 1952, and Alfred Brendel's performance in 1964.

Internationally active, the orchestra resumed its busy touring schedule post-pandemic with performances in Japan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Argentina.

In Vienna, it hosts two concert series at the Wiener Konzerthaus and has been a partner of the Theater an der Wien and the Vienna Chamber Opera since the 2012/13 season. For the next five years, the orchestra is the permanent partner of the Liszt Festival Raiding. Additionally, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra is a partner of the Vienna Opera Summer Belvedere 2024 and will perform 10 productions of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" under the direction of its former First Guest Conductor Joji Hattori.

In 2025, the orchestra will also be the official partner of the organization Johann Strauss 2025 Wien with numerous appearances throughout the year in addition to its busy regular national and international schedule.
