In the U.S., Marinescu served as Music Director of the West Chester University Symphony Orchestra, leading the ensemble in a sold-out debut at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, a European tour, and an invitation to the prestigious Catania International Festival in Sicily. He also held leadership positions with the Wilmington Orchestra, the Immaculata Symphony, and the Manalapan Orchestra in New Jersey. Guest engagements include orchestras in Montana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, as well as the Goppisberg Festival Orchestra in Switzerland.
As a cellist, Marinescu has performed internationally at major venues such as Carnegie Hall and Weill Hall in New York, Merkin Hall, the Barbican Centre in London, and concert halls in Moscow and Bucharest. He has appeared as soloist with the New York Chamber Symphony, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and leading philharmonics throughout Romania and the U.S. His repertoire spans works from Haydn and Beethoven to Shostakovich and contemporary composers.
His extensive discography includes recordings with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Târgu-Mureș State Philharmonic. His acclaimed recording of the Bach Cello Suites (Navona Records) earned international praise. Other recordings, released by Cambria and Parma Recordings, feature works by Miaskovsky, Alan Beeler, and Osias Wilenski. His recording of Arthur Gottschalk’s sonata, with Janet Ahlquist, won the Gold Medal at the Global Music Awards.
Ovidiu Marinescu is also an active educator, serving as Professor at West Chester University (Pennsylvania) and regularly conducting student and youth festivals across the U.S. He trained at the Romanian National Academy of Music and studied in the U.S. with Wolfgang Laufer and Orlando Cole. He is also active as a composer and arranger.
