Alexandra Dovgan, born in 2007 into a family of musicians, began her piano studies at the age of four and a half. Her exceptional talent became evident at just five years old when she passed the highly competitive selection process to join the Academic Central Music School of the Moscow State Conservatory, where she studied under the renowned Mira Marchenko. She is now continuing her education at the Ateneo de Música in Malaga, with her musical development further enriched through her creative collaboration with the legendary pianist Grigory Sokolov.
A prize-winner of five international competitions, Alexandra's accolades include the Moscow International Vladimir Krainev Piano Competition, the International Young Pianists Competition "Astana Piano Passion," and the International Television Contest for Young Musicians "The Nutcracker." At just ten years old, she won the Grand Prix at the II° International "Grand Piano Competition" in Moscow, with recordings of her performance reaching audiences worldwide via Medici.TV and YouTube, moving music lovers across the globe.
Despite her youth, Alexandra has already graced many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, such as the Philharmonie and Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Tonhalle in Zurich, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Konserthuset in Stockholm, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, and the Gulbenkian in Lisbon. In August 2024, she made her debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, receiving standing ovations and critical acclaim.
Following her celebrated recital at the Salzburg Festival, Alexandra has captivated audiences and critics alike with an extraordinary series of international debuts. She has performed with Gustavo Dudamel and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, debuted in Japan with the Kioi Sinfonietta under Trevor Pinnock, appeared with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under Paavo Järvi, the Stockholm Philharmonic under Ton Koopman, the Barcelona Symphony under Kazushi Ono, and most recently with the Bergen Philharmonic under Pietari Inkinen.
The 2024-25 season marks significant milestones in Alexandra's career, including her debut in London with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Edward Gardner. She will perform at major venues such as Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Stuttgart Liederhalle, Essen Philharmonie, and Milan Conservatory, and return to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo under Kazuki Yamada. Alexandra will also embark on European tours with the Basel and Stuttgart Chamber Orchestras and make her debut with the Orquesta Nacional de España and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Alexandra’s pianism is characterized by spontaneous depth, profound consciousness, and a sound of extraordinary beauty and precision. Her playing avoids showboating and technical bravado, instead focusing on purity of expression, creative imagination, and remarkable concentration. Her charismatic stage presence and distinct personality further enhance her performances, earning her admiration from audiences and critics alike.
In June 2024, Alexandra Dovgan was honored with the prestigious Prix Serdang, awarded by Rudolf Buchbinder and Adrian Flury, in recognition of her outstanding achievements and the remarkable trajectory of her young career.
