Edvard Mirzoyan

1921 - 2012

Edvard Mirzoyan was an Armenian composer, born on May 12, 1921, in Gori, Georgia. He studied at the Yerevan Music School and the Komitas State Conservatory. In 1942, he joined the Red Army, composing many patriotic and war-related songs. He began teaching at the Yerevan Conservatory in 1948 and became the head of the composition department in 1965. Mirzoyan was also president of the Armenian Composers' Union and the Peace Foundation of Armenia. His compositions are known for combining lyricism with drama, often incorporating neoclassical elements. He passed away on October 5, 2012.
